SACD Question - Do some Sacds Play Only Through The Two Fron Speakers?

Hi,

Sorry for being a bit off topic but I don't know where else to post
this.

I bought Bob Dylan's 'Blonde on Blonde' in SACD(not a hybrid) format.

When I pop it in my SACD player(I've tried two), the SACD light lights
up but it only plays through the two front speakers. My multi channel
light does not come on which does on all the other SACDs I have.

Is this defective or are some SACDs just two channels?

I tried it in a regular CD player and it wouldn't recognize the disc
at all.

Thanks for any advice.

Multichannel audio on SACD is an option, not mandatory. Does it say
anywhere on the cover that it is multichannel? If not, it's a normal
stereo SACD.

Yes, because it's not a hybrid disc.

Thanks. Every SACD I have purchased was multi-chanel, so I wasn't
aware that some are Stereo.

Thanks!

Some are stereo-only. Almost ALL are stereo as well as multichannel.

In fact, if you read those specification about Blonde on Blonde from
Bob Dylan sacd (not hybrid version) at:

http://www.musictap.net/Reviews/DylanBobBlondeOnBlondeSACD.html

you can read that this sacd is stereo only

more in depth you can read this information:

Stereo RunTime: 73:03
Multi-Channel Run Time: N/A

Stereo Mix Produced by: Bob Johnston
5.1 Mix Produced by:N/A

But you can also read this information about the sacd hybrid version
of that same album:

"Also new to this version is a CD layer with sharper fidelity and
wider dynamics than any CD of this album ever achieved, and a 5.1
channel layer"

at: http://www.musictap.net/Reviews/DylanBlondeOnBlondeSACD.html

:-( Glad for you that you buy the not hybrid version...

Bob Dylan is that guy who bring the Beatles to take drugs and make
Elvis Presley to hate them to death ... LSD, Marijuana, etc ... :-)
